 ABOUT ME

My name is April Austen. I am a second year student at RMIT University, studying a Bachelor of Communication (Journalism).

I am an aspiring sports journalist, particularly interested in horse racing, cycling, tennis and The Olympic & Commonwealth Games. I am also an arts and culture reviewer, and have experience reviewing film, theatre, comedy and circus performances.

RELEVANT SPORTS MEDIA EXPERIENCE

  • I have hosted sports radio with Syn Media for over a year, both on live show The Sports Desk and on the podcast Sweaty Upper Lip.

  • I have experience as a television sports reporter for TV show Half Hour on Channel 31.

  • I am currently the sports editor for university publication The Swanston Gazette where I help the writers define their angles, research and edit their stories.

  • I have published horse racing articles with The Roarracing.com and Inside Racing magazine. I was the sport and community writer for Humans In Geelong, where I gained experience interviewing a variety of athletes and community leaders.
